Explain it Again

Please slow down and try to explain. You’ve said it before but say it again.

Tell me again how you’ve been hurt before. Show me the wound, the scars, and the sores.

Say once more how you’ve been left out, left behind, laughed at or misunderstood.

Say it slowly so we’ll all know, you’ve been the victim, you started out good.

Convince me somehow, they want something from you

that you deserve

convince me it’s true

that you’ve worked so hard but nothing to show for it, nothing to gain, but say it,

go for it.

Say you’re excluded by words like “inclusion”

and equity, persuade me I’m wrong drawing conclusions.

Make me believe it’s all lies, it’s not true,

you’re misunderstood, we’re all wrong about you.

This disrespect is something you just can’t tolerate,

find a crowd that will somehow exonerate

you when you tell us how hard it’s been for so long and how

you’re a good man and this is no fun.

Tell me you simply can’t back down or run.

Explain it again but please, put down the gun.
