Capture, Release

Inhale, exhale.

Capture, release.

Exhale anxiety, inhale peace.

Wait, which one comes first?

Is it inhale peace, then exhale anxiety? Or the other way around?

How did the fear get inside me anyhow?

Is it lost? Misplaced? (Placed wrongly, in the wrong place…)

Like a bumblebee in the kitchen? Or a spider in the pantry?

Wait until it lights on a window, or a wall.

Approach it softly, slowly.

Sneak up on it, in other words.

Five deep breaths in, hold.

Five deep breaths out, hold.

A circle. Where does it end? Where does it start?

Place a jar, or glass, over the spider, or bee.

Poor bee. He has no real purpose in entering my kitchen.

He dreams only of losing himself in the embrace of a poppy,

to enter the vivid golden velvet folds of her sweetness,

then stumble drunkenly back out to find another.

Hold the breath for five counts before letting it go.

Slip a card between the opening of the glass, or jar,

and the wall, or window, taking care not to sever one of the

delicate legs, or wings. Capture.

Then hold the card over the glass, or jar

and take the bumblebee, or spider

out to the garden to fulfill its dream of poppy love or aphid dining.

Release.

Exhale anxiety. Inhale peace.
