I went out for my walk very early this morning just like always and noticed the waning crescent moon with Venus glowing bright and huge just to the right. A sign of safety and good luck for sailors, for travelers.

Out on the street the intersections to the left and to the right were both blocked with several police vans and yellow caution tape was stretched out along the sidewalks and around the gas station. A small motorcycle was lying in the middle of one intersection. The body of a man was lying in the road covered by a plastic sheet.

Yesterday, even just a few hours ago, this person was alive. Someone drove fast enough to throw his body nearly thirty feet. And then they kept going.

Just over two hours later I would be looking at the faces of nineteen beautiful children in little rectangles on my laptop screen. Naturally, I would tell them all about Venus and the sailor’s moon that I got to see in the eastern sky.
