Notebooks

Time for something visual. Every time I start a new notebook there is a ritual in decorating the cover. I haven’t been writing since the start of school is so busy. Seemed it might be fun to document some of my favorite notebook covers. (There are also some with collages and drawings in the pages, but that’s for another entry.) Looking back at the covers is a wonderful way to reconnect with the years when those notebooks were new and I looked forward to filling them up. (I’ve included a few from BAWP Young Writers Camps.)

I love notebooks with soft, lined pages. The ones from Japan and China have wonderful paper that responds beautifully to my scratchy pens. I also have a fetish for pens – especially the ones that allow me to replace the ink cartridge and have a nice, broad nib. I have a few that are quite old that I’ve restored. It’s much more satisfying to clean and polish an old pen and give it a fresh cartridge than it is to throw away another plastic pen. Plus, the nib has such a friendly scratching on the page.
So there you are. Just a few of many…
